Washington, D.C.:
On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his ongoing criticism of former President Barack Obama by posting a controversial AI-generated video on Truth Social. The video depicts a fictional arrest of Obama by FBI agents inside the Oval Office — a move that has triggered strong backlash for its lack of disclaimer and potentially misleading nature.
The video begins with a clip of Obama saying, “Especially the President is above the law,” followed by several American politicians echoing the phrase, “No one is above the law.” The scene then shifts to a digitally created visual showing Obama being handcuffed by FBI agents while Trump watches with a smile. The video ends with Obama dressed in a prison jumpsuit behind bars.
No disclaimer was provided to clarify the video as fiction, prompting critics to accuse Trump of spreading misinformation and being “deeply irresponsible.”
The AI video comes amid Trump's renewed claims that Obama was involved in "high-level election fraud." Recently, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard alleged that former Obama administration officials had orchestrated the Trump-Russia collusion narrative after the 2016 election in an attempt to sabotage Trump's presidency.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Gabbard wrote:
> “Americans will finally learn the truth about how, in 2016, intelligence was politicized and weaponized by top Obama officials to lay the groundwork for what became a years-long coup attempt against President Donald Trump — subverting democracy and the will of the people.”
However, a newly released 114-page report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) challenges these claims. The document shows that prior to the 2016 election, the Intelligence Community assessed that Russia was “probably not trying to influence the election through cyber means.” Additionally, a December 8, 2016, draft of the President’s daily briefing stated that Russia “did not impact recent U.S. election results” through cyberattacks.
